Why have Companies House issued me a penalty?
On an annual basis your UK Company is required to file Accounts and a Confirmation Statement to keep Companies House up to date with all your company details. If the Companies Confirmation Statement or Accounts are not filed or are filed late, the company could incur a late filing penalty or be removed from the Register at Companies House. The level of penalty depends how late the Accounts are filed. Your company could face a penalty of up to £5,000.
To ensure your company is in good standing it is recommended to file your Confirmation Statement and Accounts on time. If you do file your Accounts or Confirmation Statement late, the company would have to be checked to see if there are any other outstanding penalties.
How will I know if my company has a penalty?
Companies House and HMRC usually issue penalties by post, and normally send a letter to the Registered Office Address of the company.
The letter will inform you why you have received a penalty and will tell you the total amount of the penalty. If you do not pay the penalty within a certain timescale the penalty for your company will increase.
If you know that you have filed a yearly requirement late and you have not received any correspondence from Companies House, please contact us as your company may have been issued a penalty. We can speak to Companies House and obtain information about any outstanding penalties and any outstanding requirements.
